John 6:32-35

32Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34
“Sir,” they said, “from now on give us this bread.”
35Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

Yesterday morning I was in the kitchen fixing breakfast and I heard a loud racket on my back porch. I looked out the window and saw a bird sitting in the container of bird feed, eating, loudly chirping and flapping its wings, making bird feed fly out of the container.  My bird feeder hanging on the front porch has been out of bird feed for several days, and not taking the time to refill it, I have noticed the last few days that occasionally a bird will perch on the edge of this container and peck on a few bites of food and fly off.  But not this bird!  He dove right in and ate for a long time, and you could tell he was really happy about it.

Hungry Bird

God spoke to me in that moment.  He said, “How hungry are you?  Are you content with sitting on the sidelines, pecking for a bit of food every now and then, or are you going to dive in – with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength – and eat what I have to give?”

I have to confess that I have been nibbling and snacking on the Word way too much here lately.  What about you?

Lord, make us hungry.  Give us fresh bread from heaven every day. It’s not enough to live off last month’s experiences or testimonies. Speak to us, fill us with Your Spirit, empower us and use us to bring in a harvest for the Kingdom.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
